A Comanche High School graduate, with family in Duncan, may be one of the top female executives in London.
Heather Dixon, a vice president at American Express, was named one of seven category winners during the Women in the City Celebration in October at the Museum of London.
Dixon, who heads International Financial Reporting at American Express, won the Accountancy category, for her success in communicating financial information.
There was a great deal of competition for the highly coveted awards, with executives from all over London in the running.
“The Women of Achievement Awards reinforce the positive contribution that women make in the business world, so I am honored to achieve such a prestigious accolade,” Dixon said. “I hope this award motivates my peers in the accounting world to strive for success as it has done for me.”
Dixon, who is the daughter of Linda Gray Hayden and the late Brian Hayden of Duncan, was in the running for the overall Woman of Achievement Award, which was announced in November.
All seven categories were promoted by a sponsor. The accountancy category was sponsored by Bluefin and endorsed the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales (ICAEW).
“Heather impressed and inspired the judging panel with her combination of confidence and self-awareness,” said ICAEW senior talent manager Rhonda Martin, who presented the award. “She was able to confidently articulate her own leadership challenges as real advice for other omen making her a genuine and approachable role model.
“Her ability to combine practical solutions to flexible working with her calm, controlled and measured influencing style set her apart from the other candidates as a real agent for change who understood the need to join the different perspectives of those setting the messages from the top and the real experience of the people on the ground.”
The goal of the Woman of Achievement Award is to highlight and formally recognize those women who, as well as fulfilling a demanding senior level role, are actively promoting and encouraging the progress of women in their organization and sector.
