RV goes up in flames at Fuqua Lake campground

DUNCAN — Duncan firefighters were dispatched at 5:05 p.m. Monday to an RV fire at Fuqua Lake campground around, but by the time they arrived, the vehicle was fully involved, said Duncan Fire Interim Chief Dayton Burnside. No one was injured in the motor home fire.

Firefighters arrived on scene about 5:30 p.m. and were there until 7:20, according to the fire report. Velma EMS and Duncan Police Department officers were already on scene when DFD arrived. The firefighters were immediately cautioned by DPD that the motor home had an abundance of ammunition and propane aboard.

The report stated that two Duncan firefighters did a quick knockdown of the structure and also used a foam pack to eliminate hot spots. A tanker from Velma Fire Department and a grass truck from Bray Fire Department also arrived on the scene and began assisting with water transfer. Once the fire was under control, those two fire departments were released from mutual aid duties. Even though the vehicle had been charred, the homeowner, Jack Collins, was able to provide a brief description that it was a 1984 Fleetwood Southwind, noted the report filed by Duncan firefighter Josh Wilson.

Total loss was estimated at $4,000.
