Sheriff's Office to form new task force

DUNCAN — The Stephens County Sheriff’s Office has formed a team to investigate crimes, trends in criminal activity and locate those wanted for warrants.

The Felony Apprehension and Suppression Team currently consists of Stephens County Sheriff’s Deputies.

Stephens County Sheriff Wayne McKinney said he is looking to include other agencies in the county, from Duncan, Marlow, Comanche and Velma, and possible surrounding areas to better serve the county.

“We live in different times. We want to identify the criminal element before they commit crimes,” McKinney said.

While the team will focus on violent crimes, a more proactive approach will help in investigating and solving all crimes, he said.

McKinney said the team will receive training on investigation and intelligence-gathering techniques and use equipment the sheriff’s office already has.

“The emphasis will not take away from the patrol within the unincorporated areas of Stephens County, but will actually improve the ability to identify suspects and crime trends that occur in these areas,” he said.
