School board OKs new $123,370 deal for Labyer

DUNCAN — Duncan Public Schools Board of Education on Tuesday extended the contract of superintendent Sherry Labyer for another year.

Labyer’s salary will be $123,370 under the new contract, said Lisa Presgrove, president of the school board.

“Thank you for the opportunity,” she told the board.

In other business,  board accepted the resignatin of Plato Elementary principal John Millirons, who has been employed by the district 34 years.

 Millirons has served as principal of Will Rogers Elementary, Irving Elementary and Plato Elementary.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to serve the kids, parents and community,” he said.

 His resignation will go into effect June 30.

“You’ve given your heart and soul to this district,” said Labyer. “We appreciate it.”

Brandy Peters was approved as Plato Elementary assistant principal to ease her transition into the principal’s post after Millirons leaves.

Peters has been with the school district since 2010, most recently as a REACH instructor.

“I’m looking forward to getting back in school with the children and sharing in leadership,” Peters said.

Board members also approved the resignations of Dixie Trinidad, Emerson custodian, with 8.5 years of service; Danny Johnson, groundskeeper/general maintenance, with 10 years of service; and Sheila Edmonson, Will Rogers teaching assistant, with six years of service.

Donald White and Carnel Rochell, standby bus drivers; Lillie Riley, special education paraprofessional; and Pamela Menz, high school family and consumer science teacher, were hired by the board.
