Oilfield worker rushed to OU after rig accident

Mickey Pruitt, an oilfield worker in Velma for Jack Well Service was injured on the job about 12:30 p.m. Tuesday. Pruitt was evacuated by air to OU Medical Center with several traumatic injuries, said Stephens County Sheriff Wayne McKinney. The Stephens County Sheriff’s Office responded to an emergency call in the oilfield about one half mile west of Texaco on Oklahoma State Highway 7.

McKinney said it is believed that Pruitt was working on a workover rig with platform hinges about three feet off the ground to the mast. The worker is believed to have lifted the platform to chain the top to the mast when the cable broke.
“The cable broke causing platform to fall on to the worker standing underneath,” McKinney said.
While that is the assumption, officials will continue their investigation to confirm with that assumption.
“OSHA (Occupational Health and Safety Administration) will be leading the investigation,” McKinney said.
McKinney said as of 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, the extent of his injuries were unknown.
