The Duncan Banner
There was a record-breaking number of applicants during Duncan Toy Shop’s pre-registration, where there were about 280 families sign up.
Approximately 245 families pre-registered for the Christmas gift donation program last year, making this year’s total about a 14 percent increase, with many of those families having multiple children.
Regular registration will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, Dec. 3-13 at Toy Shop. If there is an increase in applicants there, more toys than ever will be needed to help these families out.
“The Chisholm Trail Heritage Center is working with us this year,” said Lynn Samples, co-chair of Toy Shop. “They will offer free admission with a toy donation from Nov. 26 to Nov. 29 leading up to their Christmas Blitz.”
From Nov. 15 through Dec. 7, CTHC will be the appointed drop off location for donated toys. A box will be located in their lobby for this purpose 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1-5 p.m. Sunday.
Also upcoming with Toy Shop is its annual Open House/Christmas Blitz, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Nov. 29 at 111 S. 9th St. This is another opportunity for the community to bring new or gently used toys to be donated. Punch and goodies are provided for those who drop off toys.
For those who are interested in volunteer work, Toy Shop is always looking for help. To find out how you can take part in this project, contact Kathy Snider at 580-255-9552 or Lynn Samples at 580-252-5966.
