The Duncan Banner
A dozen youth from Gospel Beams Church demonstrated the reason for the holiday season.
At Gospel Beams, the youth ministry of the church performed a living nativity earlier this month to celebrate the true reason for Christmas —The birth of Jesus. The nativity was performed three nights between Dec. 13 through Dec. 15. The living nativity also served as a float in the Main Street Duncan Christmas parade Dec. 14.
“We have done this in past years, but we haven’t done it in a few,” pastor Ray Ledbetter said.
Ledbetter shares pastoral duties with his wife Dianna Ledbetter. Ray Ledbetter has been pastor of the church, where his father was previous pastor, for 37 years.
The children performing in the living nativity were Halie Woods, Courtney Langwell, Alyssa Childers, Creed Powell, Carson Battiest, Kathleen Battiest, Maddie Battiest, Vivian Battiest, Allen Battiest, Austin Williams, Jacob Childers, Jordan Childers.
One of the goals of this year’s living nativity is to make it an annual tradition, which working to minister to youth of the church. Youth ministry of the church is led by Kim Woods and Crystal Childers, both of whom had children in the living nativity.
Ledbetter said the living nativity program did spark the interest of children in the church. He said the program drew children into the true meaning of Christmas.
“It’s a neat way to do it,” Ledbetter said. “The kids will never forget it.”
