Check ‘n Go’s target of traveling thieves

DUNCAN — A burglary that happened over the weekend at the Duncan Check ‘n Go was a specifically-targeted crime aimed at the franchise chain. It was not the first and may not be the last. Duncan Police Capt. Jay Evans, supervisor of the investigative division, said that the local business had been alerted by its corporate office that Check ‘n Go’s throughout Oklahoma and Texas were being targeted by a group of individuals who apparently knew what they were doing.

“We got an intel bulletin and it was after (DPD) received it when the business was burglarized,” Evans said Monday.

“They are professional and they know exactly what they are doing and where they are going. That’s all they are doing.”

It appears the burglary took place late Friday or early Saturday. The thieves gained entry into the store and then used a saw to get into the safe.

Evans declined to say what had been taking or how much money was missing.

“They are three black males. This is happening in several jurisdictions. I believe it happened in Lawton and there is surveillance footage of them. These people are different than your normal burglars,” Evans said.

Check ‘n Go’s across America have been recent targets of armed robberies also. Among those, a former Detroit police officer was arraigned in March for his involvement in several robberies of the stores, unrelated to the Duncan burglary.

The nationwide franchise is known as a popular check cashing business. No other information is available at this time regarding the local crime.
