Velma parade still slated for Saturday

VELMA — Though some not-so-pleasant weather is threatening hopes for Saturday events, the Velma Christmas activities are still on the calendar.

Velma Mayor Shawn Enloe said the House Lighting Contest will go on no matter the weather Friday night. Residents who want their decorations judged are to leave their lights on from 6-10 p.m. Friday.

Right now, the parade is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. Saturday with lineup beginning at 10 a.m. at the east of town near the E&S Feed Store.

“If we cancel, it will be that morning and we will have someone posted out there to let people who show up know it’s canceled,” said Enloe.

Even if the parade is canceled, the mayor said, Santa will still be present from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Town Hall, so children can have their photos taken with him.

“We really want to have the parade, so we’ll just keep our fingers crossed,” Enloe said.

No. It's better in the summer cause kids are out of school.
Yes. More shoppers would come during nice fall weather.
Either time is fine.
