Suspect in attempted Bray robbery arrested

DUNCAN — Clever cop work by the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office led to the arrest of Crystal Lee Foss, 28, of Bray, for the alleged attempted robbery of the Bray Store.

“I just can’t say enough about my guys,” Stephens County Sheriff Wayne McKinney said. “All they had were grainy photos of the suspect and truck. These things never get cleared.”

Detectives Chad Powell, Mike Moore and deputy Dwayne Snyder worked the case.

The trio was tasked with solving the crime with only a few photos and a poor description of the assailant. Surveillance footage captured a truck at the scene — a newer model Chevrolet 1/2 ton. That single clue was the break the investigators needed.

“One of our deputies was driving in Duncan and noticed a truck that was similar to the truck in the photo,” McKinney said. “He took a photo of the truck and grabbed the license plate number and all that.”

When investigators began comparing the crime scene photo and the photos taken in Duncan, they noticed some distinguishing features on both photos. Among the distinguishing features were fuzzy dice and  the same rims on both vehicles.

Smitten by the similarities, investigators called the owner of the vehicle and interviewed her. After 45 minutes, she confessed.

Foss will be charged with first degree robbery. She was booked into the Stephens County Jail Tuesday evening.

Foss allegedly entered the Bray Store at 9 a.m. June 3. After entry, she brandished a handgun, prompting both clerks in the store to run.
