Waurika EMS meets to discuss meeting

Board wants members to attend

WAURIKA WAURIKA — After discussing how it could get more members in attendance, the Waurika Emergency Medical Services board moved quickly through its business, at a regular meeting Dec. 1.

For the second straight month, only six of the 12 board members were present for the gathering at City Hall. Following approval of minutes from a Nov. 3 meeting, the agenda called for a public forum. At that point, Sarah Ray, director of the Waurika Volunteer Ambulance Service, addressed the attendance issue.

“How do we get more board members here?” Ray asked.

She added, “Our by-laws say if a member misses three straight meetings there can be a (removal) action taken.”

William Eakin, board attorney, wondered if all board members were receiving meeting agendas in a timely fashion. There are two board members from Ryan and one from Terral, he noted, “and if we’re mailing them agendas, the Ryan and Terral people don’t get (their agendas) until Monday. And lots of people in Ryan and Terral have post office boxes.”

Treasurer Gail Kelley said agendas for Ryan board members Carol Wyler and Deonna Charmasson are faxed on Fridays to Ryan City Hall, and that an agenda for Terral board member Carrie Villarreal is sent to the Head Start office in Terral.

Kelley said she and City Clerk Donalda Showalter would seek ways to expedite the process of getting agendas to board members.

In action taken, board members unanimously approved renewing an automobile insurance policy for the three ambulances in the WVAS fleet. They voted to accept a premium offer of $2,067.80 from Bartling Insurance, with payment to come through the city’s General Fund.

Board members also unanimously approved paying a purchase order of $69 for license tags on two new ambulances purchased in October, and approved Kelley’s treasurer’s report for November.
