DUNCAN U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe, R-Okla., joins several other incumbent candidates across Oklahoma in the re-election to his congressional seat.

The native Tulsan faced Democratic candidate Andrew Rice and Independent candidate Stephen Wallace. Inhofe won Oklahoma’s first congressional district by 56 percent of the vote.

In Stephens County, Inhofe claimed 11,457 votes while Rice took 5,471 votes. Wallace earned 842 of the county’s votes.

Neither Inhofe not Rice was available for comment Tuesday night.

Stephens County Republican Party Field Representative Adam Smith said the re-election of Inhofe to the U.S. Senate is a reflection of Oklahoma values.

“He really energized his volunteers. He had a lot of great people on his team,” Smith said. “His constituents are approving of what he’s doing.”

Rice earned nearly 40 percent of Oklahoma’s votes. Wallace claimed the remaining 4 percent of votes cast.
