LOCO — A senior at Velma-Alma High School boy was killed in a single-car rollover accident about 7 p.m. Tuesday and the driver was transported to Duncan Regional Hospital, where she was treated and released.

Alan Thomas Jackson, 18, a Loco resident, was pinned for nearly five hours by the vehicle after being partially ejected from the rear window, when it rolled in the accident. He died at the scene, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol report filed by Trooper Nathan Mackey. Jackson was freed by Medical Examiner Brian Louch and D&E Wrecker Service.

The report stated that Ashley Dawn Edwards, 16, of Loco, was driving a 2005 Chevy Malibu northbound on County Road 298, just south of State Highway 53 in Loco, at a high rate of speed when she hit a dip in the road that caused her to lose control of the vehicle. It veered left and Edwards over corrected to the right, sending the car into a broadslide. The vehicle left the roadway and traveled about 50 feet and rolled several times. According to the report, it was unknown how many times the vehicle rolled. It continued another 120 feet until it came to rest.

The report also noted that both Edwards and Jackson were wearing their seatbelts and airbags did deploy.

The accident was investigated by Mackey, with assistance from Lt. Garrett Vowell of Troop G headquarters, Trooper Forrest White of the Cotton/Comanche County detachment of Troop G, the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office, Loco Fire Department, Velma Police Department, Ringling Police Department and Velma Fire Department.
