DUNCAN Diana K. Watson, of Duncan, and her passenger, Gary Don Lane, of Marlow, were involved in a single-car accident around 12:44 a.m. today on Beech Road.

Watson was transported to Duncan Regional Hospital and immediately put on Medi-Flight for transfer to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City where she was admitted with head, internal and external trunk injuries and arm and leg injuries, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol accident report released today. She is listed in critical condition according to the report.

Lane was admitted to DRH with internal and external trunk injuries and arm and leg injuries. DRH Media Coordinator Megan Sanner said Lane was treated and released.

The accident happened on Beech Avenue about 2/10 of a mile east of County Road 278, when Watson was driving westbound and left the roadway to the right, at which point she took evasive action and crossed both lanes in a broad slide for about 225 feet.

Watson’s 2001 Jaguar then went off the road again and collided with a tree, sending it flying airborne for 97 feet and turning over about 3 1/2 times before resting on its side.

According to the trooper’s report, both Watson and Lane were pinned inside the vehicle and fire department personnel went through the windshield for extrication. Watson was pinned approximately 30 minutes and the Jaws of Life were used to rescue her.

Seatbelts were in use, according to the report. Trooper Darin Carman investigated the scene, with assistance from Stephens County Sheriff’s Office, Empire Volunteer Fire Department and Duncan Fire Department and Stephens County Commissioner’s Office personnel.
