Alcohol taxes reflect sales

DUNCAN —
Alcohol taxes were up for September in the county, compared to July and August, but down compared to September 2008. County commissioners approved the allocation of alcoholic beverage taxes during its Tuesday meeting.
For September, distribution to cities show that Duncan received $8,390.83; Marlow, $1,712.09; Comanche, $580.14; Loco, $55.93; Velma, $247.57; Empire, $273.67; Bray, $385.89; and Central High, $355.69.
Total allocations distributed in September 2009 were down slightly to $15,237.79, from the previous year of $15,826.84. Distribution to individual cities also was decreased and is as follows: Duncan, $10,653.19; Marlow, $2,173.72; Comanche, $736.56; Loco, $71.01; Velma, $314.32; Empire $347.45; Bray, $489.94; and Central, $451.60, for a total of
In September 2008, allocations were Duncan, $11,065.01; Marlow, $2,257.75; Comanche, $765.04; Loco, $73.75; Velma, $326.47; Empire $360.89; Bray, $508.88; and Central, $469.05, for a total of $15,826.84.
Before reviewing and signing the allocation figures, Commissioner Todd Churchman speculated if the downturn in economy would show if people were spending more or less on alcohol.
July’s total allocations were $8,314.07, with distribution as follows: Duncan, $5,812.61; Marlow, $1,186.03; Comanche, $401.89; Loco, $38.74; Velma, $171.50; Empire $189.58; Bray, $267.32; and Central, $246.40.
Total allocations for August were $8,894, with distribution as follows: Duncan, $6,218.06; Marlow, $1,268.76; Comanche, $429.92; Loco, $41.44; Velma, $183.46; Empire $202.80; Bray, $285.97; and Central, $263.59.
The commissioners approve the distributions at the beginning of each month for alcohol sales in the previous month.
