A man was shot in the leg multiple times Thursday evening approximately two miles south on Oklahoma Highway 7 on Weaver Chapel Road.
Weaver Chapel Road is between Duncan and Velma about three miles east of where Oklahoma Highway 7 turns into a two-lane road.
Stephens County Deputy Sheriff Chad Powell said that he was dispatched to the location shortly before 7 p.m. and when he arrived he found three individuals.
One individual was on the ground bleeding from the legs, a male was standing approximately 15 feet to the east of the man on the ground and a female was standing approximately 20 feet to the south, Powell said.
The deputy said that the male standing up said his gun was on the ground at which point Powell placed him in the deputy’s vehicle.
Powell said that there were four shots fired. One went over the head of the man who was shot, two into one leg and the fourth into the other leg. The victim was taken to Duncan Regional Hospital.
“A bullet hit the shinbone,” Powell said. “The hospital said that the victim might be able to go home sometime next week.”
Megan Varnell, media coordinator for DRH, said Saturday that the victim was transferred to the OU Trauma Center in Oklahoma City.
The clinical coordinator at OU Trauma Center said that the victim was in good condition Saturday.
No charges were filed at this time, but the investigation is still ongoing, he said.
“I need to interview the victim,” Powell said.
Duncan Police Department Detective John Byers assisted with the initial investigation.
