Accident sends passenger to hospital

DUNCAN — Emergency responders reported to a rollover accident about one-quarter mile north of Comanche around 4:45 p.m. Tuesday.

According to Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper Thomas Winton, the yellow Dodge Neon was traveling south when it drifted left of the centerline. The driver overcorrected and the vehicle slid into the ditch on the west side of the road, broadsiding the concrete runoff at the bottom of the ditch. The car then slid another 10-15 feet up the west side of the ditch before the wheels of the car caught, which made it complete one full turnover.

An adult passenger in the back seat was ejected through the back window of the car. She was not wearing her seat belt, the report said. Three people — the driver, another adult and an infant — were reportedly shaken up, but otherwise OK. The infant was strapped into a car seat in the back seat of the vehicle. The passenger who was ejected was taken to Duncan Regional Hospital, and a helicopter was en route for a possible mediflight, the investigating officer said.
