Commisioners OK new jail stairway

DUNCAN The Stephens County commissioners approved the only bid to come in for a staircase in the Stephens County Jail at their regular Monday meeting.

Dillon Construction of Duncan won the job with a bid of $18,814.

The commissioners, with input from Stephens County Sheriff Wayne McKinney, selected a circular staircase over a conventional staircase.

“The conventional stairs will take up a lot of space up there,” McKinney said.

There were 20 bid packets sent out, but Dillon was the only company to return a bid.

The circular staircase will not only save space, but also money, at a savings of almost $1,000.

A recycling bin for aluminum will be placed at the Stephens County Fairgrounds & Expo Center after the commissioners approved that item by a 3-0 vote.

The commissioners also approved four bids for the purchase and delivery of bridge materials and another four grader blades.

The commissioners chose to accept all of the bids so that they could purchase the cheapest available when the blades and bridge materials are needed.

An Oklahoma Alcoholic Beverage Laws Enforcement Application for mixed beverages submitted by Jennifer Clary was approved.

The commissioners also approved an Annual Hydraulic Safety Test Inspection proposal submitted by Kone Inc.

The commissioners approved a contract between Comanche and Stephens County for juvenile detention services at a cost of $21.68 a day, which is up about $2. The contract was originally brought up at the May 30 meeting.

One agenda item was tabled until next Monday and that was the agreement between the Stephens County commissioners and the Stephens County Public Safety Communications Authority providing consolidated public safety and emergency communication services.
