Two drivers medi-flighted to OU med center, both critical

DUNCAN — A two car accident occurred around 6 p.m. Monday about a mile east of Comanche Lake Road on Terry Road, which resulted in two people being transported to Duncan Regional Hospital.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper Nathan Mackey said at about 9:50 p.m. Monday that both Geraldine Martin and Cary McCreight are in critical condition and will be medi-flighted to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City.

Martin was driving a Chevrolet SUV eastbound on Terry Road and attempting to make a left turn into a private driveway when a Chevrolet Malibu, traveling in the opposite direction, collided with the SUV, Mackey said.

The Malibu left about 125 feet of skid marks.

The Malibu traveled a few more feet and came to rest on south side of the street on its hood.

McCreight was driving the Malibu with no valid license, Mackey said.

“He had a not eligible for renewal class C license out of Texas,” Mackey said. “He will be cited for it.”

Meridian Emergency First Responders arrived on scene soon after the crash and extracted both Martin and McCreight from their respective vehicles and transported them to the hospital.

After Mackey and all the First Responders left, the Malibu burst into flames. Smoke had been coming from the Malibu’s engine block all while the first responders did their job.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper Thomas Winton said that oil had been leaking into the engine compartment.

When a local wrecking company turned the vehicle over, it burst into flames, Winton said.

The fire was put out by the wrecking company before first responders arrived, Winton said.
