The Duncan Chamber of Commerce is gearing up for SummerFest and the World’s Largest Garage Sale.
Scheduled to take place July 18-19, the two events will bring entertainment and various vendors to Duncan, in addition to encouraging all citizens to participate in the citywide garage sale.
“Garage sales expand the entire city and our focus is in Fuqua Park,” said Laurie Baldwin, DCC events coordinator. “Normally, we see 10,000 people come into Duncan.”
In its 23rd year, the World’s Largest Garage Sale will differ from previous years as more things will be encompassed in the event to appeal to all ages.
“This year, we’re going to incorporate more entertainment, have crafters and a kids zone,” Baldwin explained. “Basically, anything you think of, we have it.”
Focusing on family and community, Baldwin noted the event isn’t a fundraiser for the Chamber, but rather a way to showcase Duncan and celebrate its residents.
“It’s a quality of life event for our community and to promote tourism in Duncan,” Baldwin said. “It just promotes community and coming together. It’s saying what a great city we have.”
The newly added kids zone will feature booths where kids can play games, have an opportunity to win some give-aways, and participate in some crafty stuff of their own.
Adults will have a chance for some fun of their own, too, as demonstrations on various crafts will be given and entertainment from local groups will be highlighted.
And, while residents might have garage sales set up at their own homes, the heart of the event will be in Fuqua Park. So far, 23 vendors are signed up for the event. Baldwin said they are looking to add more to reach a goal of 40 to 50 vendors. For information about the event or to participate, call Baldwin at 580-255-3644.
