Fancy and Sugar Free band to rock the library

DUNCAN At 11 a.m. Saturday, the Duncan Public Library will be hosting a 45-minute children’s concert featuring the Sugar Free Allstars.

Comprised of Chris Wiser on organ and lead vocals, and Rob (Dr. Rock) Martin on drums, the band has made a name for themselves for playing both adult-oriented and children-oriented shows.

According to their website at www.sugarfreeallstars.com, the duo’s “reputation for high-energy performances has given them the opportunity to collectively share the stage with many diverse acts, such as ... Dick Dale, R.L. Burnside, All-American Rejects, Bowling For Soup, and Hank Williams III,”, among others.

“They were a hit last Summer, and we have them back by popular demand,” said Darbie LaFontain, head of the Children’s Department at the Duncan Public Library.

Funded by the Friends of the Duncan Public Library, the concert is free and open to the public.

While the concert will be geared towards kids ages 5 and under, LaFontain mentioned that many adults enjoyed the performance last year and were part of the popular demand.

The band plays a diverse range of music for diverse age groups, and their children’s concerts offer just as much energy as their more adult-oriented shows.

“One of their hits on Sirius radio was ‘Bathtub Boy’,” LaFontain said. “The kids also just love the one called ‘He’s Okay’; they’ll be bringing some of their new songs on Saturday, as well.”

The band is no stranger to the state, having shared the stage with the Grammy-award winning, Oklahoma’s Offical Rock Song band, The Flaming Lips. They also played as the final band on the Little Rockers Kid Stage at the Norman Music Festival, held this past April.

“Chris, one of the men in the band, emailed me and said that they are very excited about coming back to Duncan,” LaFontain said.

The Duncan Public Library is located at 2211 North Hwy. 81, and may be contacted at (580) 255-0636.
