Rush Springs’ seniors recall 12 years

Seniors present roses to parents

RUSH SPRINGS One more memory was made Friday evening as 51 seniors from Rush Springs High School’s Class of 2008 prepared to receive their diplomas and take their first steps into adulthood.

Valedictorian Emalee Munn touched on the simple momentum of the moment, telling her friends and fellow classmates that though this chapter of their lives was coming to a close, there was another greater one waiting to be written.

“Twelve years ago, we were just embarking on this journey called education,” Munn told those in attendance.

“Our lives at this stage are in the first parts of adulthood. Our class has great potential for the world.”

Lance Hill, also a valedictorian, continued with the message, leaving a message for the underclassmen who will follow in their footsteps.

“You know what you have to do,” Hill said.

“Don’t be afraid to fail, and you won’t.”

Following the addresses, students walked across a stage set up on the Rush Springs football field to receive their diplomas, smiling and laughing with each other as they waited their turn in line.

Parents were not forgotten in the ceremonies, as each student took a rose or two and presented it to those who have shaped and prepared them for the world, sparking tears of joy and pride in a job well done.

Gathering near the north end zone at the end of tassel moving and cheers, the students gave one last homage to their alma mater, chanting “We are Redskins,” before tossing their caps into air and releasing the silly string.

“We are the Class of 2008,” Mann said. “It is a bond we share. A bond that cannot be broken.”
