Duncan school board to discuss employment matters

Derrick Miller
The Duncan Banner

DUNCAN With the school year coming to a close, personnel matters will be one of the main issues during today’s regular meeting of the Duncan School Board.

Board members will enter an executive session to discuss four items dealing with employment.

The first of these items will be possibly accepting resignations. Those employees include Mike Crone, Kathleen Vrla, Kristy Brown, Sharon Carr, Sue Loughridge, Judy McClain, Bill Allen, Debra Lewis, Diana Austin, Joyce Thomas, Charles Reddin, Tracy Webb, Martha Daniels, Louise Taylor, TJ Baker and Chris Bradley.

Loughridge and McClain will be retiring.

The board may look into hiring some employees, too.

The positions to be filled include groundskeeper, speech pathologist, Shantika Scott, Teresa Blalock and Cynthia Millirons, Mary Holloway, Audie Dorrough, Dale Harris, James Evans, Matthew Terry, licensed technician (electrical), and three standby bus drivers. This item will also deal with rehiring of listed support personnel and administrators.

Harris, Evans and Terry may be hired as summer driver’s education teachers. Scott, Blalock and Millirons will be considered for the Summer Reading Academy. Larry David, Glenda Cobb and Liz Fawbush may be rehired for their administrative positions.

The third thing to possibly be discussed in executive session will be the opening of formal negotiations for DESPO support staff and discuss opening of formal negotiations for Association of Duncan Educators of Oklahoma.

Finally, board members will talk about pending litigation of the Axtell Roofing lawsuit.

The suit was brought against Weatherford-based roofing company in November 2005 for what the school system considered faulty workmanship performed on several buildings during fall 2004.

Other items to be considered:

n Members will discuss appointment of a clerk for the board of education, minutes clerk and minutes clerk for executive session for the 2008-09 school year.

n They will also discuss appointment of a deputy clerk for the board of education, deputy minutes clerk and deputy minutes clerk for executive session for the 2008-09 school year.

n The board will discuss a contract between the Oklahoma Department of Rehabilitation Services and Duncan Independent School for a transition school-to-work program for students with disabilities.

n Members will discuss hiring two architects — one for new canopy walkway covers at Duncan High School and another for an addition to Will Rogers Pre-Kindergarten Center.

n Another discussion will focus on changes to the Duncan Middle School handbook.
