Murder charges filed, man sought

John Walker
The Duncan Banner

DUNCAN Charges were filed Monday and a warrant issued for the arrest of Dale Lee Jones, 33, in relation to a homicide early Friday morning near Maple and King’s Place.

Jones, also known as D-Ray, is charged with murder in the first degree or an alternative of murder in the second degree.

District Attorney Bret Burns filed Jones’ previous felony conviction information, which states Jones has nine previous felony convictions, three of which were distribution of a controlled substance.

Duncan Police Lt. Jimmy Williams said that police are still looking for Jones.

“We don’t have any reason to believe that Jones has fled the city,” Williams said.

“We have received many tips from the public and are actively pursuing all leads to try and find him.”

Williams said that all the witnesses to the incident have been contacted and their stories recorded, but police are still uncertain about a motive for the incident.

“There were about five people at the location when it happened at about 1 a.m.,” Williams said.

“As far as we know, there was no argument or fighting, just a simple discussion before it happened.”

Williams said that the victim, Jonathan Ball, had a large knife, about the size of a Bowie knife, on his person.

Ball apparently loaned the knife, which was then used against him, Williams said.

“We have no indication that this was an accident. We have not recovered the weapon, yet,” Williams said.

He said that Ball stumbled about 30 feet and then collapsed on the road.

“Ball was found by some female juveniles walking down the street and they happened across him,” Williams said. “Due to the amount of blood, they called 911 and said they thought it had been a gunshot.”

According to the affidavit, when police and EMS First Responders arrived, they pronounced Ball dead at the scene.

A first-degree murder conviction would bring a maximum of life imprisonment or a death sentence.

The arrest warrant states that bail is not an option before an initial appearance in court.
