The Duncan Banner has made a number of personnel changes.
Duane McCollum has joined the team as the new circulation manager.
McCollum got his start delivering newspapers as a youth carrier. He has been circulation manager for 11 years at newspapers in Texas and has also worked as a pressman.
He and his wife Kathy have four children, Jacob, Levi, Keeley and Sklar.
Ron Booth is the new editor of The Duncan Banner. He and his wife Kayce have three children, Tulley, Darby and Atticus.
Booth has been the paper’s sports editor for the past four years.
Ron was born in Duncan in 1976, and has always had a connection to the town. A 1994 graduate of Empire High School, he graduated from Cameron University in 2001.
Booth started his journalism career in Ponca City as a sports writer, and moved on to be the sports editor at the Pauls Valley Democrat. He joined The Banner in April 2002.
“I’m excited about my new role at The Duncan Banner,” Booth said. “I think this is an opportunity to broaden my horizons and be more active in the communities around Duncan. The Banner is a great place to work, and I look forward to the challenges that lie ahead.
“There have been a lot of people that have taught me a lot of things, like the Kaleys, Jeff and Karen, and Floyd Jernigan. I hope that one day I can have the impact on people that those folks have had on me.”
David Miller will assume the role of sports editor. Miller is a 2005 graduate of Mississippi State University with a degree in communication.
He graduated high school in Mississippi, but grew up an Air Force child, living in South Carolina, New Mexico and the Philippines.
He joined The Banner in July as a sports writer after moving from Starkville, Miss.
“I’ve learned a ton from Ron and have enjoyed covering the teams in our area. I look forward to continuing The Banner’s high standard for sports coverage in providing newsworthy and attractive journalism for its readers.”
Karen Kaley, who has held many roles at The Banner, including editor, moved into the ad services and composing department in April 2007, where she is in charge of ad composition and pre-press work for The Banner’s products and commercial printing.
“We’re excited to have Duane join us,” said Publisher Floyd Jernigan. “He brings a wealth of experience and a service-oriented approach to growing The Banner’s reach in our market area.
“We’re also glad to be able to promote ‘our own’ and continue to give our staff expanded opportunities.
“Ron and David will add to our continuing tradition of customer service and reader focus. Karen plays an integral role in the production of our newspaper and will continue to bring her talents to a vital customer service position.
“We believe these changes will continue to elevate our commitment to our readers and advertisers in bringing them the news and information that impacts their lives here in Duncan and Stephens County.”
