Time to sell the cookies

Sweet teeth rejoice: Girl Scouts have cookies

DUNCAN New Year’s Day has come and gone, and for many people, so have their resolutions.

To further ruin any chance of restarting failed “eat healthy” resolutions, in come the Girl Scouts. The Girl Scout’s ambitions are virtuous, their goal is to raise funds and develop confidence, all the while building character and entrepreneurial skills.

The Girl Scouts are kicking off their cookie sales with a Cookie Rally from 10 a.m. to noon Jan. 23, at the Chisholm Trail Church of Christ at 1404 W. Main in Duncan.

Cookies on demand may sound like a pipe dream, but the Girl Scouts are offering just that this year.

Cookie Sales Manager Leah Meadows said, “We want people to know that we will have cookies on demand this year. We have a Cookie Cupboard in Duncan, so we will have all the supplies we need.”

There will be a robotics challenge at the rally so the troops can demonstrate the skills they honed at previous robotics tournaments. There will also be a cookie recipe challenge.

“The girls are given a box of cookies and tasked with making a dessert with it. It is really fun for the girls,” Meadows said.

The Girl Scouts will unveil a new cookie at the rally, Thank U Berry Much.

Meadows says it is an Ocean Spray cranberry with white fudge chocolate and crispy rice. Those in attendance at the rally will be able to taste Thank U Berry Much and the other cookies the Girl Scouts offer.

A new feature this year is cookie bundling. Meadows said.

“You can pick what cookies you want to bundle so people can get an assortment,” she said.

Cookie booths will go up Feb. 12.

“We want to get the cookies out before Valentines Day,” Meadows said.

Cookie sales are an opportunity for the girls to raise money for their troop. With every box sold, the troop gets a percentage back. The money earned goes towards an activity fund.

“We want the girls to set goals and meet them. It’s all about doing succeeding in what they set themselves to do,” Meadows said.
