DUNCAN — Happy Crapemyrtle Christmas to you!

Duncan Beautification wishes you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

If you’re looking for gift ideas, a gift certificate for a crapemyrtle from one of our local nurseries would be nice. The crapemyrtle could be selected and picked up in the spring, ready to be planted and enjoyed for years to come. The recipient of the certificate can choose the size and color they want for a sunny location in their landscape. Make this a Crapemyrtle Christmas!

Elk Plaza has planted several crapemyrtles in the concrete areas close to their buildings. What a thrill to see them get on board with crapemyrtles, especially since they are along the Crapemyrtle Trail.

From Camelback to Main Street, and U.S. Highway 81 is on the trail.

We would encourage other business owners to follow Elk Plaza by planting crapemyrtles. Way to go Elk Plaza!

As the year comes to a close, this has truly been a year to remember. First we set records for severe cold temperatures during the winter months.

When spring and summer arrive, the rain is nonexistent and the heat is above 100 degrees for days on end. We know that crapemyrtles are aggressive, and their performance was quite impressive this year. However, many other plants didn’t make it and will have to be replaced.

In some cases, a crapemyrtle would be a good choice. To further add to an unusual year, Oklahoma has a 5.7 earthquake.

Let’s hope 2012 is more “normal” and weather not quite so bizarre.

Merry Christmas to all and let’s make 2012 a year for crapemyrtles to beautify our wonderful community. They are such a beautiful plant and they will live for many, many years.
