Artists named to elite group

— Three Duncan artists have been named to an elite group chosen to participate in the Red River Valley International Juried Art Exhibition at the Red River Valley Museum in Vernon, Texas.
Only six artists from the entire state of Oklahoma were chosen. A total of 102 exhibitors from 32 states and three foreign countries will participate.
Leigh Ann Vinson has had “Jade Bowl” accepted for display. Jolene Loyd Forbes will show “Just Us Three” and “Geraniums in Provence.” Robert Adams of Duncan will also participate.
Vinson is a student of B.J. Archer, and Forbes has been studying with Kay Franklin. Other artists Vinson and Forbes have studied with include Leonard Wren, Gay Faulkenberry, Marty Childers and Judy McComb.
This is the seventh exhibition to be held in the museum. David Band, a nationally recognized and award-winning artist, author, art critic and juror, will select awards for the exhibition. Band is a member of Allied Artists of America Inc., Audubon Artists Inc., National Arts Club, Watercolor USA Honor Society, a signature member of the National Watercolor Society, Salmagundi Club and the Artist’s Fellowship. His work is in many major corporate, institutional and private collections.
Both Vinson and Forbes are members of Duncan Art Guild and have been featured among the guild’s artists of the month. Both have won awards for their work.
The opening of the exhibition will be May 2, and the art will be on display through June 27. Red River Valley Museum promotes and supports excellence and diversity in arts education. The museum is free and open to the public from 1 to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays.
Next year’s exhibit is already being planned, with entry slides due by Feb. 1.
