Fitted for play
Duncan Little Theatre encourages teens to dress up

With parts assigned, the attention of the Duncan Little Theatre’s Teen Theatre turned to costumes.
Teen Theatre participants were fitted for their costumes Friday in the Duncan Little Theatre location on Main Street.
The teen program, which is funded in part by grants from the Oklahoma Arts Council, will conclude with the production of “Fairy Tale Courtroom” at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Simmons Center.
Play Director Beth Ann Ewing said costumes play an important role in productions for both the audience and the actors.
“Especially for this particular show because it’s a fairy tale,” Ewing said.
“We want the characters to be recognizable.”
She said it’s also important for the actors because it helps them get into character more easily.
The costumes also emphasize the character portrayal by the actors once they are in character.
With a week left before the show, Ewing said things are coming together. Costuming is just another big step toward the performance. The play, which is a mixture of fairy tale characters and members of the judicial system, required an array of costuming. The play includes characters from fairy tales including “Snow White,” “Hansel and Gretel,” “Little Red Riding Hood” and “The Three Little Pigs.” It also requires a judge, a district attorney, a bailiff and a defense attorney.
Rebecca Dicintio, who plays the judge in the program, said she is excited about the costumes.
“I love the costumes,” Dicintio said. “They’re nice. They’re interesting.”
She said she thinks people will appreciate the costumes in the performance because they will be representative of the characters the actors play.
“I think the people who come will like it much,” she said. In the two weeks of the program, each student was assigned a character and started learning his or her lines. Dicintio said she was glad to be given the character of the judge because it allowed her to be more animated with her acting.
“I love my character. I get to scream a lot,” she said.
“I have more lines this year than I had the last two years.” While costuming may be an essential part of the program, Dicintio said the performance of the actors is also important. This year’s group gets along well, she said. “I love it,” she said. “It’s fun. Everyone is really nice. I think more people should do it.”
