Velma-Alma sweeps, Walters and Empire girls roll

VELMA-ALMA —

Velma-Alma took a 17-14 lead into the half after scoring 10 points in the second quarter, the most either team would score in a quarter.

Shelby Hayes led the Lady Comets with 10 points as Taylor Alexander scored seven and Robyn Sanner added five.



Walters girls 75, Big Pasture 33
The Walters Lady Devils continued to roll early in the season with a 75-33 win over Big Pasture Friday night. Walters scored 68 of its points in the first three quarters while holding the Lady Rangers to 13.

Cassadie Holybee scored 24 to pace the Lady Blue Devils. Tashina Ototivo added 16 and Vanessa Karpe tacked on 11 to lead Walters, which improved to 3-0.

The Lady Blue Devils will have their sites set on the Velma-Alma tournament next week where it expects to be tested against the likes of Healdton and Velma-Alma to name a few of the schools.

“The kids have gone out and performed well,” Walters head coach Sam Hale said. “They have played exactly the way we want them to play, it’s been a pretty good start.”



Empire girls 49, Grandfield 8
Grandfield — The Empire Lady Bulldogs had little problem in disposing of Grandfield Tuesday night, defeating the Lady Bearcats 49-8 to improve to 1-1 on the season.

Dakota Brown led Empire, scoring 14 points and bringing down eight rebounds. Andrea McCormick had 11 points and Whitney Jennings added 10 points and three steals off of the bench.

Empire finished with 24 rebounds and had 10 steals to nine turnovers. The Lady Bulldogs will be back in action on Tuesday when it travels to Velma-Alma.
