Velma-Alma took a 17-14 lead into the half after scoring 10 points in the second quarter, the most either team would score in a quarter.
Shelby Hayes led the Lady Comets with 10 points as Taylor Alexander scored seven and Robyn Sanner added five.
Cassadie Holybee scored 24 to pace the Lady Blue Devils. Tashina Ototivo added 16 and Vanessa Karpe tacked on 11 to lead Walters, which improved to 3-0.
The Lady Blue Devils will have their sites set on the Velma-Alma tournament next week where it expects to be tested against the likes of Healdton and Velma-Alma to name a few of the schools.
“The kids have gone out and performed well,” Walters head coach Sam Hale said. “They have played exactly the way we want them to play, it’s been a pretty good start.”
Dakota Brown led Empire, scoring 14 points and bringing down eight rebounds. Andrea McCormick had 11 points and Whitney Jennings added 10 points and three steals off of the bench.
Empire finished with 24 rebounds and had 10 steals to nine turnovers. The Lady Bulldogs will be back in action on Tuesday when it travels to Velma-Alma.
