The Duncan Golf & Country Club hosted the first day of the Darren Hoedebeck Memorial Golf Tournament Tuesday.
Players entered in the Hoedebeck earn points for each day they play in the tourney. Five points is awarded for first, four for second, three for third, two for fourth and one point for fifth. The points earned help golfers qualify for the South Central Junior PGA summer finale.
With several other junior golf tournaments and the Oklahoma Amateur going on at the same time, the field isn’t what it has been in the past, but the scores on the first day were still close.
Three strokes separated first from fourth in the boys’ 16-18 division. Trevor Rose was in the lead with a 71, while Nathan Hamsted was second after clubbing a 72. Jerrod Abernathy shot 73 to take third, and Tanner Harman was fourth at 74.
In the girls’ 16-18 competition, Shawnda Petree was shot a 78 to take the lead, while Sarah Harper ended the first day with an 83. Julie Wortham was third at 94, and Haley Gunkel carded a 97 for fourth.
The biggest division of the tournament was the 14-15 boys’ with 22 players.
Trey Payne shot the low round of the day at 69. Taylor Williams was second with a 73, and David McMurry clubbed a 74 for third. There was a three-way tie for fourth at 76 between Drew Wright, Kaleb Osmus and Jeff Johnson.
There were only three players in the girls’ 14-15 division and Aleesha Holden led the way with an 86, Karin Cockran was second at 110 and Taylor Lette was third in 123.
Wyatt Robson and Will Roberts both carded a 79 to share the lead in the 12-13 boys’ group. L.L. Humphreys was in second at 83, while Grant VanHoose was in third with an 85. Blake Knox and Ryan Cox were tied for fourth at 86.
Megan Blonien was on top of the 12-13 division with a 43, while Allyson Wilcox and Charter Lawson were tied for second with scores of 45. Amanda Johnson turned in a 46 for third and June Tigert placed fourth with a 47.
Cooper Little shot 51 to take the lead in the 11& under boys’, and John Campbell and Patrick Ball both carded a 53 for a share of second. Blake Riesen was third at 54, and Logan Harris shot 57 for fourth.
