Ag teacher hired

Monday’s regular Marlow School Board meeting focused primarily on personnel for the 2008-09 school year.
Among the items approved were the hiring of a assistant high school principal and the rehiring of 70 non-certified staff members. These things were approved after a two-hour executive session where the board members discussed at least six items relating to personnel matters.
Superintendent George Coffman said, “We’re very pleased. They have assets to bring with them. And I think they’ll make us better than we are.”
Bryan Brantley, an elementary principal in Chickasha, was hired as the high school assistant principal. The position was most recently held by Wayne Moore, who will be taking Tommy Cosgrove’s position as principal when Cosgrove retires at the end of the school year.
Brantley said he has worked in Chickasha for four years, but is ready for a change. “I’m excited,” he said. “I’m thrilled to be an Outlaw. I appreciate the chance to come down here.”
Other people hired were Connor Hanes as the agriculture education teacher, and Daryn Brantley, a high school teacher/coach.
Among other personnel matters discussed were the hiring of a speech pathologist and elementary teachers, and coaching assignments. Coffman said he was not ready to make recommendations for those positions.
In other action:
n Members discussed next year’s budget, which Coffman said wasn’t ready because the state school board hasn’t appropriated allocations for the 2008-09 school year.
“We do not know our budget,” Coffman said. “The state hasn’t done its part. We haven’t received our allocations.”
n The board also talked about events coming up for the high school seniors.
Several dates include baccalaureate on Sunday, senior breakfast on May 14, Class Day (scholarship assembly) on May 15, and practice and graduation on May 16.
“We’re winding down fast,” Cosgrove said.
n Members discussed improvement and maintenance projects for the summer.
Among those is removing a house from property the school purchased earlier in the school year.
“We’ll start getting projects started in the summer,” Coffman said.
n The school board also approved hiring three instructors for the summer driver’s education course. Those hired were Lisa McAdoo, Kirk Harris and Jeremy Gage.
n Members approved transferring $500 from the middle school yearbook account to the middle school computer lab account.
