The Duncan Banner
Ed Apple, a former chairman of the Oklahoma Corporation Commission and a ex-member of the Oklahoma House of Representatives, will be the keynote speaker when members of Class XVI of Leadership Duncan, sponsored by the Duncan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, graduate May 1.
Ceremonies will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Duncan Golf and Tennis Club.
The class, which completed nine one-day sessions on various aspects of leadership skills and community life, was the largest ever with 30 members and brings to 236 the number of Duncan area residents who have participated in the program that started in 1977.
Class members Sandy Stewart and Gina Flesher have been named to serve on Leadership Duncan’s steering committee.
Adding to a trend of annual Leadership Duncan projects, the group has already begun working on plans and raising $20,000 to re-fence the section of Fuqua Park that includes the Leroy Tucker Kiwanis Club Kiddieland.
The class recently sponsored former mayor and historian Phil Leonard’s four-part series on the History of Duncan, expanding his opening class session so that members of the community not enrolled in the class could benefit from his work. DVDs of the series will be sold with proceeds helping fund the fence project.
Applications for Class XVII are being accepted now through the chamber. For information, call 580-255-3644. Deadline for applying is May 2.
