DUNCAN — Applications for Class XVII of Leadership Duncan will be accepted through May 2.

The nine-month program, sponsored by the Duncan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, is a community leadership development program established to promote individual skills and to make participants more aware of community plans, programs, organizations and issues.

After an opening class-alumni mixer and retreat, members spend one day a month discussing economic development, politics, city and county government, education, health services, social services, state government and culture-quality of life activities.

The 2012 mixer is Aug. 7 followed by the two-day retreat Aug. 10-11. The first session, on economic development, is Sept. 4, with graduation May 7, 2013. On-site sessions are led by community leaders knowledgeable in their specific area. The state government session is conducted at the state capitol. Programs are designed to be both probing and interactive.

Each class identifies a community need, then creates and completes a project that addresses the need.

Leadership Duncan was launched in 1977. Since then, 226 participants have graduated from 16 classes.

Tuition for the mandatory attendance program is $300 for chamber members; $400 for non-members. Scholarships are available. Class size is determined by the application pool and the opportunity to assemble a group that represents a cross section of the county.

For information, call the Chamber at 580-255-3644.
