DUNCAN — A Duncan physician is being held today for allegedly shooting a man believed to be the boyfriend of the doctor’s ex-wife, police said.

The physician was arrested shortly after the shooting was reported around 9:49 p.m. Sunday in the driveway of 2901 Timber Ridge, said Duncan Police Chief Danny Ford.

He was being held Monday at the Stephens County Jail on a complaint of assault with a deadly weapon.

The victim is a 57-year-old male who was taken to Duncan Regional Hospital with a leg wound that Ford did not believe was life-threatening.

Ford said the bullet went through the man’s upper thigh and perhaps his abdomen area.

The suspect admitted to shooting the man after the two had an argument, police said. According to officers, the shooting apparently happened after children had been returned following visitation with either the suspect (father) or his former wife.

The physician is a doctor of internal medicine who has an office in Duncan.
