Stephens County Sheriff’s Office and Velma Volunteer Fire Department members are searching today for a man whose family last heard from him around 1 p.m. The search covers more than 1,000 acres of pasture at the Baseline and Alley area, north of Velma.
The man’s identity has not been released, but Sheriff Wayne McKinney said Banjo, the bloodhound, and another search dog were also being brought to help with the search. McKinney was on his way to get the SCSO helicopter because of the scope of the search.
The man, in his late 60s, was out working this morning on his tractor. When the family hadn’t heard from him, they went to find him and discovered the tractor in the middle of the field, idling, McKinney said.
Temperatures are hovering around 94 degrees. Daylight will help in the search for the man.
The Banner will post updates as they are received.
