VELMA — Jim and June Sexton celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Nov. 30 at the Velma Family Life Center. Hosts were the couple’s children, Jalena Chandler, and Leticia Ledford and her husband Shane.

Jim Sexton and June Cook were married Nov. 30, 1963, at the Church of Christ in Fittstown officiated by Rev. Clarence Waldroup. The couple lived in Fittstown until 1974. They then moved to Velma with Conoco Oil Company and are still residing there.

Jim took early retirement from Conoco in 1996 at which time he went to work for C.E. Harmon Oil Company. He retired from there in 2010.

The Sextons are members of First Baptist Church of Velma, where June has been a first and second grade Sunday school teacher for 30 years. The couple has provided love and care for each grandchild, watching them while their parents worked.

They love working in their yard and are well known for helping family and neighbors take of theirs also.

The couple has two daughters Jalena Chandler of Velma and Leticia Ledford and husband Shane of Comanche. They have six grandchildren: Kaylee Chandler, Kyle and Ashley Chandler and Dakota Chandler, all of Velma, and Hunter Tucker and McKayla Ledford of Comanche. They also have four great-grandchildren: Bryson, Ayden, Ty and Kinsley.
