Lady Donkeys kick Fox

FOX —
The Bray-Doyle Lady Donkeys had to hang on for a 46-33 win over the Fox Lady Foxes Monday night.
The Lady Donkeys (4-5) blew a 27-point lead.
Fox got as close as 40-31 in the fourth quarter as B-D didn’t score until the 1:09 mark on a layup by Rachel Gates.
“We had to press the whole game because we have such a hard time scoring,” B-D head coach Bink Woolbright said. “We’re scoring about 40 points a game, and we’re giving up about 40 points a game. That’s how close it really is.”
The Foxes opened the fourth quarter with a 3-point play by Brianna James, which was followed by a 3-pointer by Leandra Iushame to cut B-D’s lead down to 20 points.
A bucket by James made it 40-31 in favor of the Lady Donkeys with 1:32 to play, but that was as close as the Lady Foxes would get.
Bray-Doyle had eight players score, with none of the players reaching double digits.
“There isn’t a whole lot of difference in this bunch of kids,” Woolbright said. “I started two different girls tonight (Brittany Cramton and Kelsey Spivey) that I haven’t started the last three games. I’m just not comfortable with any of them.”
The Lady Donkeys started the game strong, as Laci Bowen poured in six of the 10 points B-D put up in the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Bobbi Jo Everett opened the period with a bucket, and a trey by Gates at the 3:43 mark pushed Bray-Doyle to a 22-4 edge.
Fox didn’t score until the 2:07 mark when Kenya Ervin dropped in a bucket and a free throw, as Bray-Doyle took a 26-9 lead into the locker room at the half.
Bowen and Spivey each dropped in buckets to open the third quarter to give B-D a 30-9 lead.
It took Fox until the 2:21 mark to crack the scoreboard in the third, but Bray-Doyle already had a 38-11 lead.
