The Duncan Banner

DUNCAN Fri, May 16 2008

The Duncan Banner was founded by Col. James P. Sampson in 1892.
One of four original businesses in Duncan, The Duncan Banner is the oldest city business that has remained in operation without a change in name.
The Duncan Banner joins the Duncan Masonic Lodge and First United Methodist Church as the only remaining entities established in 1892.
The original presses for the weekly Banner were reportedly brought to Duncan on the first train to stop at the then-new Duncan railroad depot.
Annually, The Duncan Banner serves as a major sponsor for the local MDA Talent Show during the Labor Day holiday. The paper and its staff are volunteers in many community activities, including sponsoring Project Graduation for Duncan High School and promoting the United Way of Stephens County.
